Just because I know how to mow the lawn doesn’t mean I should.
I was chatting with someone this week and I was reminded of when a salesman from now closed R&R Sunrooms built my sunroom. We were talking about how I built my mom’s deck and helped Andrew Foor.
Shout out to Andrew and Shannon (Stout now) and the kids, build his brother’s deck in Raleigh NC. The salesman, I can’t place his name now, it has been 16 years, mentioned that was great and all but I shouldn’t feel bad. “You do all this …” (speaking of my day job). I am paraphasing her e, “Just because you can do it doesn’t mean you have to. You make good money doing what you do, just focus on doing more of that and pay people that make less per hour to help you out. You have enough to handle.”
For some reason that conversation has stuck with me over the years and it is starting to mean more everyday.
Find your strengths and harness them. Take ownership of your strengths and take advantage of the skills that come easy to you. Don’t waste precious time trying to fit your personality / work ethic into a hole (career, lifestyle, relationship) it won’t fit in.
Thanks for reading my ramblings.
I am just a sound guy trying to keep the lights on.
